Installing Lucas Chess on Linux from the latest sources in two easy steps

First step

Check that git is installed. 

git --version

If it is not, then:

sudo apt-get install git  (for Debian/Ubuntu based systems)
sudo yum install git (for RedHat/CentOS/Fedora based systems)

Second step

Download the script:

And launch it from a terminal.


The whole installation is created in the ~/lucaschess folder, and there the program launcher and an update script are created:

cd ~/lucaschess

./LucasR.sh
./update_lucaschess

    In version R.2.12c every time touch the menu, selecting best stockfish version for your CPU. how to disable this. also save engine log... working... is freezing. how to fix it. i am using pc with intel dual core processer

      It is a one-time process and saves the result. If it failed to save the result, it could be a file permissions problem, if the program has not been installed for a user. If this is not the case, another possibility is that the program was not able to launch any version of stockfish. I haven't tried the 32 bit ones, could it be that your operating system is 32 bit?

    Hi Lucas, well done! Lucas Chess works very well in my Arch, installed with your script.

    There is only a problem so far: I am not able to launch the docs (from the Info menu) directly from inside the program. If I try, nothing happens.

    What can I do?

    Yes! I've changed the default web browser from Chromium to Firefox, and now I'm able to read all the docs. Many thanks! Don't stop to support Linux also for future updates of Lucas Chess.

      No. It only works with a windows or Linux emulator.

LINUX - First binary version

The first official binary version of Lucas Chess on Linux has just been released. It has only been made possible by the great work done by Laudecir Daniel , choosing and compiling the 67 engines, as well as laying the groundwork so that the binaries can be more widely used and others such as shortcut creation, installation scripts, ...... In addition,  Graham O'Neill  has provided Linux-specific drivers for several digital boards. This version has two limitations : 64-bit Linux OS only.
