Version 8.01: some bugs fixed and new option Fide-Elo

As expected, some bugs have been detected, and it requires this update:

 Bugs :

  • Database of positions, removing, renaming, ... (Nils Andersson)
  • Database of games, saving to PGN (gvdsloot1994)
  • Some English labels (Nils Andersson)

New options:

  • Fide-Elo, based on TWIC database (Chris K.)
  • Using depth and time in the analysis of a game. The analysis stop when one of both is reached.(Philou)

    Wow! Great! New version 8.01! What a pace! Thank you!
    And new "FIde ELO" and another options!
    (but the old name "FICS Elo" remains. Better will be rename to "FIDE Elo" for differentiate names, I think :)
    I was send by email the "bug.log" (from 8.0 version) for errors identify.

    I played a game against Stockfish DD at 3 seconds per move with r3k3/1p1p4/1pnB1P2/p2P4/1N2P1P1/Pp5B/3P3P/n3K2R w KQkq - 0 1
    and I got the game 1. dxc6 dxc6 2. Nd3 Nc2+ 3. Kd1 Rd8 4. e5 Nd4 5. g5 b2 6. Nxb2 Kf7 7. g6+ Kxg6 8. Rg1+ Kh6 9. f7 Nf3 10. f8=Q+ Rxf8 11. Bxf8+ Kh5 12. Bg4+ Kg6 13. Bxf3+ Kf5 14. Bd6 b5 15. Bg4+ Kg5 16. e6 a4 17. e7 b4 18. e8=Q b3 19. Be2+ Kh6 20. Qh5# 1-0
    and I analyzed the move 6. Nxb2 with default analyzer critter 1.6a 32 bit and then I changed the analyzer to Stockfish DD for 10 seconds.
    Bb8 is valued at +0 but the line it gave was a mate line - Critter at 3 seconds analysis confirmed that this was a mate line.

      Point is, when analyzing a position, sometimes it will say +0 even when it is clearly not (maybe for Stockfish DD only)

    Using Windows 7 I can't use anymore the feature "adjourn game" that worked with LucasChess 7.

      I have just test it in my PC (windows XP) and no problem.
      Please send me file bug.log in the root folder of the program.

      Hi!

      I adjourned a game against "Fics player", but now I can't find it to resume playing. What should I do? Where should I look for the adjourned game?

    I don t quite understand what Fics and Fide Elo options represent. How Lucas selects the moves to reply, what criteria does it have in these two categories of play?

      Lucas Chess use pgn games, and it selects a random game in the range choiced, then user plays a determinated game where pgn-player elo is known.

LINUX - First binary version

The first official binary version of Lucas Chess on Linux has just been released. It has only been made possible by the great work done by Laudecir Daniel , choosing and compiling the 67 engines, as well as laying the groundwork so that the binaries can be more widely used and others such as shortcut creation, installation scripts, ...... In addition,  Graham O'Neill  has provided Linux-specific drivers for several digital boards. This version has two limitations : 64-bit Linux OS only. Future version 10 step 05: Scanner of positions

Some days ago Juan Carlos Antón, head of UNED chess school , does give me permission to include tactical positions from the PDFs on the downloads of UNED web, which I consider very educational. The problem is there is no possibility of obtaining  original fens. The solution to ease my work, has been to create something like an OCR of image positions, which at this specific case is working very well. Only three concepts are handled : mark, deduce, and learn. First, mark the board, the next step is to deduce, if there are errors the user corrects them manually and asked the program to learn from them. At the beginning there are quite a few errors, but less and less. To mark the Board a transparent window is launched that occupies the desk and lets see the PDF and select a position.
